Privacy Policy
Effective July 19, 2026
1. What we collect
- Account info: email address, username, name (optional), date of birth, home track, and driver class.
- Racing data: sessions, lap times, telemetry you import (including GPS traces recorded by your data logger), gear, and setup sheets.
- Content: photos, comments, kudos, follows, and reports you submit.
- Payments: wallet balance and transaction history. Card details go directly to Stripe - we never see or store your card number.
- Device location: only if you tap "find nearby tracks," and only to run that search. We do not track your location in the background.
- Photo location: when you attach a photo to a post, we read its embedded location on your device to suggest a track tag. The coordinates themselves are never uploaded or stored - only the track tag you choose to apply.
2. What's public and what's private
LapTime is a community. Your profile (username, name, photo, home track, driver class), sessions, lap times, session photos, garage, and comments are publicly visible - including on share pages that don't require sign-in and on track leaderboards.
Your email, date of birth, phone number, wallet balance, transaction history, transponder ID, and setup sheets are private and never shown to other users.
Photos you upload are re-encoded on your device before upload, which removes hidden metadata such as GPS location, camera details, and timestamps.
3. How we use your data
To run LapTime: showing your sessions and progress, powering leaderboards and the community feed, processing wallet loads and purchases, submitting waivers to tracks you race at, moderating reported content, and keeping the service secure. We do not sell your personal information.
4. Who we share it with
- Service providers: Google Firebase (database, authentication, file storage), Stripe (payments), Vercel (hosting and analytics), and Open-Meteo (weather lookups by track location, not yours).
- Tracks and their operations systems: when you buy a pass or sign a waiver, the track receives the information needed to honor it (your name, the pass, waiver details including date of birth and guardian info for minors) through the system that track uses to run its operations.
- Legal: if required by law or to protect the safety of users.
5. Children
LapTime is not for children under 13. We require a date of birth at signup and delete accounts of users under 13 without retaining their information. If you believe a child under 13 has an account, contact us and we will remove it. Racers aged 13-17 should use LapTime with a parent or guardian's permission.
6. Your choices
- Edit or remove your profile details, photos, sessions, and gear at any time.
- Report content that shouldn't be on LapTime - every photo, comment, and profile has a report option.
- Delete your account from Settings. This removes your profile, sessions, laps, photos, garage, and social activity. Wallet transaction records are retained as required for financial recordkeeping.
7. Security and retention
Data is stored with Google Firebase using per-user security rules; private fields are readable only by you and LapTime administrators. We keep your data while your account is active. Payment records are kept as required by law after deletion.
8. Changes and contact
We'll post any changes to this policy here with a new effective date. Questions or requests: support@laptime.app
